From Impala to Cruze, Lordstown Celebrates 50 Years

lordstown

Fifty years ago this week, a white Chevrolet Impala was the first vehicle to roll off the assembly line at the General Motors plant in Lordstown, Ohio. Since then, over 15,000,000 more vehicles have been assembled at Lordstown, including the Chevrolet Cruze which is built there today. The Lordstown plant employs over 4,500 workers spanning three daily shifts and is one of the highest volume single line vehicle assembly facilities in the world. If you’d like to make the six hour road trip and take part in this piece of automotive history, the plant is hosting an open house on May 20th and a car show on May 21st. Phillips Chevrolet has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of Cruzes ready for your test drive.
